Question:

Tap water verse bottled water?

This is mainly for the UK - is the tap water as good as bottled water or even so better than some of the bottled water products?

Is it necessary to drink bottled water?

Why do we remove natural minerals from waters to purify it and then add fake ones? Is that really better for you?

  1. I have bottled water for going out and taking it with me, but when I'm at home I drink it from the tap. I do however filter it first. I don't think that bottled water is any better for you than tap water but I think it depends on where you live. :-)

  2. Our council wine is perfectly safe & just as good as bottled water:)

  3. Studies have shown that in some areas tap water is actually BETTER than bottled water for example in Wales and West Midlands.  A litre of bottled water takes 10 litres of water to make. So even if it is slightly better for you in some areas do you really think you can justify drinking it? Plus think of the plastic you are wasting and the CFCs used to make the plastic thereby causing green house gases.  If I want to drink water when I am out I re-fill a bottle that I already have thereby re-using it and still only using tap water! If you are that worried about it then buy a filter.

  4. We are blessed that we have perfect water to drink on tap. Why people but bottled water is beyond me. I think its a total waste of your money.

  5. are you aware that Evian.....is "Naive" spelled backwards?

    sez it all really............

MIGHTY was the salesman who succeeded in selling the notion of selling WATER to people.....and sticking designer labels on the bottles.

In New York.........which many fools think of as dirty and disgusting............

do you know how CLEAN their tap water really is?

It passes thru one of the best and most regulated systems on EARTH.   It doesn't GET any cleaner!

and yet people still BUY water.

In fact.......out in California......some enterprising young fool, actually started SELLING, BOTTLED, NEW YORK TAP WATER!!!!

and people paid for the "novelty" of it, and the pretty picture on the bottle.

Even Donald Trump got into the act, selling "Trump Ice".

    reallllllly expensive, designer, snooty, ---WATER.

and people line up at his gift shops to buy it.

No wonder the man is rich.

  6. I used to filter all my water (I drink a lot!) but have given up doing it - having said that, we installed a mains water filtration system!  We have very hard water here. I only drink bottled when I'm out these days!

  7. Tap water every time. I prefer to be conned by something a bit better than a BOTTLE of water ! ! !

  8. tap water tastes funny. i really don't like it unless its an emergency

  9. personally I don't see the point of drinking bottled water when we have clean safe water coming from the tap, it's expensive, VERY environmentally unfriendly, and toxins from the plastic leech into the water and I don't believe most people could tell the difference in a blind test

  10. If the municipal corporation or the civil body which supplies water in your area is capable and willing to give clean water then buying bottled water is a waste of money. But in some places bottled water can be more dangerous than tap water.

The type and quantity of dissolved minerals in ground water varies over different places. Sometimes certain elements like flouride, which is otherwise good if present within limits, occurs in more than the healthy limit and can even be close to bieng toxic. We can never know the concentration of minerals in water unless the water is lab tested, so it better to use a technique like reverse osmosis to make it totally pure. The minerals and salt impart a taste to water( you would know if you have tasted pring water) and they have health benefits also so they are added after purification.

  11. The tap water here in Norfolk, UK,  is perfectly fine. I have never bought bottled water and never intend to. Its all just the same and I pay a huge amount for my water bill each year. I'm not going to pay for it twice over.

My husband and I have been drinking tap water all our lives and we are healthy apart from me being a little overweight. (Thats my fault, not the water) My children have always drunk it and are perfectly healthy. Its just a complete waste of money and clutters up the recycling bin too. We go to extremes not to take carrier bags home and yet, take dozens of bottles of water. It makes no sense.

  12. tap water, not only free, but contains flouride which helps your teeth to not get cavities.

i have never seen the point to bottled water, millions of plastic bottles going into bottling water that contains a few minerals?  shiped from countries that have hardly any clean water to countries that it comes out of the tap and is in every home!
