I live in a manufactured home that has vinyl wall paper. I would like to add texture and then paint the walls so they look nicer. Can anybody tell me the proper procedure to do that?

  1. i dont know but if you have a local home depot they have a wide varity of books that are quite useful! you can talk to a specialist in paint that should know what to do! good luck!

  2. All you have to do is prime them with any high adhesion primer.  I lived in one, and did this.

If you want REALLY nice walls, take off the batten strips, tape and mud the seams, then prime and paint.

  3. There is a machine to add texture to walls.  You need the special hopper, and an air compressor.  Who ever has these (you wouldn't want to buy them just for one job) will know how to treat the walls so it will stick.  I used a handyman who had the equipment but a painting contractor would have cost about the same.

  4. You can apply texture to these walls but I strongly suggest you avoid the traditional gypsum/plaster products and look at Krylons spray texture product lines.  I have a motor coach that I recently renovated/remodeled and have the same wall surfaces you are referencing.  I was hard pressed to remove and reinstall new until I tried the Krylon Textures that came in spray paint cans.  This turned out absolutely beautiful and I have walls that have textured stone looking finishes that are rich, even and flawless.  I top coated finished walls with Crystal Clear Satin to provide an eggshell/satin sheen and increased durability.  The whole interior and project schedule cost me $200, Salon, Galley, Bathroom and bedroom.
