well, I have this challenge thing...

A Refastenable adhesive closure system is needed for the fusion of a polymeric tape strip with polyolefin film.

that's the thing that I have to find

but I don't even get what I'm supposed to do, because the words are so very big and i don't get them!!

so could you please explain what that means, and also give an example for how I could create one?

thanks!!

  1. Refastenable means about the same as resealable or reconnected. It could be referring to Velcro fasteners, buttons, shoe strings, zippers, Zip-Lock bags or TupperWare lids, jar tops, pressure cookers.

An adhesive is a general term meaning to stick or hold together. This could include Velcro, glue, adhesive tape, etc. A closure system can also mean a clamping or holding system, not necessarily a total enclosure like an oven.

Fusion means to bond by melting together and then re-hardening. This is how welding of metal is done. Some common plastics like polyethylene can only be joined by fusion or mechanical fastening. They will not be glued or held with adhesive. Other plastics can be bonded by a form of gluing using a sollvent.

A polymeric tape is any kind of plastic tape. A polyefin film would probably be referring to a polyethylene film in particular. You cannot glue or use adhesives on polyethylene , but it can be fused as the statement says is to  be done. A fixture (jig) could be designed to hold the pieces together at the best distance from a heating device. The strip of tape and the film could be heated together and fused if the polymer tape strip is polyethylene too. It could indeed be that. Because one is a film, this would be very difficult to accomplish and the jig would be needed.

If the clamping is to be done by an adhesive instead of a mechanical clamp, then a Velcro-type (adhesive) clamp could be employed. However it would have to be made of plastic material having a much higher softening and melting point than the polyethylene plastic being fused. Nylon may work here.
