Taping babies eyes in hospitals?

Why do you see babies and young children with tape over their eyes after surgery or when in critical condition?

so their corneas don't dry out....they may not be able to blink or blink enough due to prematurity or medications and that would cause the eyes to dry out and possibly cause blindness
