Tara Moore, Lou Brouleau advance into quarterfinal round – Loughborough Challenger 2011
The 2011 AEGON Pro-Series Loughborough Challenger of the Women's Singles event took place on Thursday the 10th of November, 2011 in Loughborough, Great Britain. The first two competitors to take up the gauntlet on hard courts were; top seeded Briton Tara Moore against unseeded compatriot Alexandra Walker.
The top seeded Briton had managed to blue rain on her adversary in straight sets of 6-2, 6-4. The 19-year old Moore won her match by taking on an assertive style in both the sets. Although, she was unable to smash an ace during the opening set of the match, she managed to restrict her double faults to zero.
Moreover, she had hit 62 percent of her first serves on target and accomplished to bag an ostentatious 92 percent of her first serve points won. With a strong defence, she did not setup a single breakpoint opportunity for her adversary and instead, capitalized on a hundred percent of her breakpoints won.
In addition, she not only had an amazing return bagging a 50 percent of her total return points during the opening set. On the contrary, Walker had an average service game and a pitiable return. The unseeded Briton was unable to hold her own during the opening set and was only restricted to two games in the entire set!
Amidst the second set Walker pulled up her socks but was still unable to muster the numbers and although, she had taken a notch higher on her service game, she was unable to make a good return due which she lost most of her points. Another reason for her defeat was that she was unable to capitalize on any of the four breakpoint chances presented to her.
Nonetheless, the top seeded Briton managed to secure a place in the quarterfinal of the event.
In the second match, Lou Brouleau had managed to get rid of the seventh seeded Czech Katerina Vankova later in the day by scoring 6-4, 7-6(1).
The 16-year old Frenchwoman had managed to dominate the opening set by bringing on her A-game and it was her service game that won her most of her points as she managed to accomplish an above average 59 percent of her total serve points in the opening set.
She didn’t have a geometric precision and ended up double faulting twice. Nonetheless, she had managed to save three out of four breakpoints and capitalized on two breakpoints won.
Mean while, Vankova had a below average service game bagging only 54 percent of her total service points and with a pathetic 41 percent of her total return points, she was bound to lose the opening set.
However, in the second set, she matched a blow for a blow and the score had kept tied for most of the game. Eventually the set was pushed into a tiebreaker as neither player wanted the other to take the lead and at the end of the twelfth game each player had bagged six games each.
During the tiebreaker, the head-to-head run had lost steam as with a series of holds, breaks and aces the Frenchwoman had clinched the tiebreaker at 7-1. In doing so; Brouleau was able to secure a berth in the quarterfinal of the event.
The two winners; Lou Brouleau and top seeded Briton Tara Moore will be clashing against each other in the quarterfinal of the tournament.
