Tara Moore defeats Lou Brouleau in quarterfinal – Loughborough Challenger 2011
The quarterfinals of the women’s singles competition at the 2011 AEGON Loughborough Challenger continued on November 11, 2011 with a match featuring Tara Moore (Great Britain) and Lou Brouleau (France). Moore won the match in straight
sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Moore, ranked at 332nd spot in women’s world ranking, was dominant in the match from the start of the first set. Both players could not score any ace and they did not concede any double fault either.
Brouleau, ranked at the 764th spot in the world, had a 74% first serve winning ratio as compared to Moore, who had a 53% rate.
16-year old Brouleau could not utilize her service games effectively as she won 35% points from her first serve and 38% points from her second serve.
On the other hand, Moore was slightly better as she won 56% points from her first serve and 43% points from her second. The French player did concede double faults twice in the set but her higher first serve winning ratio could
not give her the lead she wanted.
Brouleau could only save three out of the seven breakpoints she faced and remained on the back foot throughout the first set. Moore was also unable to save all of her service games as she could only save four out of the six breakpoints
she faced. Moore won the first set 6-3.
As the second set progressed, the British player was going for a win over an experienced opponent. Brouleau could not score any ace and conceded a double fault while Moore delivered an ace with no double faults.
They were similar in statistics as far as their first serve winning ratios were concerned as Brouleau had a 68% ratio while Moore secured a 66% rate.
19-year old Moore played all of her service games with dominance and did not let Brouleau break any of her serves. The French player, however, was unable to save her service games again, as she could save only three out of the
five breakpoints she faced.
Moore was playing the second set with a consistent pace, showing her superiority over her French opponent. Brouleau could only win one game in the second set. Her inexperienced nature on the tennis court did make her lose the match
but she did give a good fight in the first set. Moore won the second set 6-1 and cruised into the semi finals of the tournament.
Lou Brouleau has played fourteen tournaments in 2011 with a win/loss ratio of 12/14. Keeping her age in mind, she will learn a lot in the coming years and has the potential to enter the top tier of women players in the world. But
in the current 2011 Loughborough Challenger, she has proved her worth by playing the quarterfinals.
