Tarantula help?

hello im looking to get a tarantula i have the terrarium, water dish and ground dirt i now need a heat mat i no that they need there tank to be 60 to 70% humidity and 25 digrese i have a foam wall at the back of the tank and it is insulated so can i put the heat mat on the bottom or should i just put it on the side. and if i buy a thermistat sepeate will that still stop the heat mat from going over 25 degrese? could anyone give me some sites or information? thanks

  1. they don't need heat mats. they can do very well at room temperature in the 70's. if you house is cold, then use a heating pad. but I've had a rose hair for 7 years with no heat ever and its doing great!


  2. The colder it is the less active the tarantula will be, so 20 - 25 degrees celcius is a good range, so you only really need a form of heating if it gets lower than this.

    If you do end up getting a heat mat I suggest you get a thermostat like you said so it sits on the correct temperature - and place it on the side of the tank, not underneath. This way its more natural for the tarantula as in the wild heat is on the surface/above, not coming up from the ground.
