Target Duchess hits the bull's-eye for A2 win at Newcastle
When the dogs leave their traps at Newcastle Greyhound Stadium, they fly down the 480m track like darts heading towards the centre of a dart board. But only one of them can hit the bull’s-eye,
and Target Duchess managed to do just that in the A2 race.
After leading first, Target Duchess (6-1) ran on to finish the race in 29.76 to earn the victory. Despite a clear run, second-place finisher Lil Sabatini (6-1) went wide early on, and
finished 3¼ lengths behind the winner with a time of 30.02.
Tursdale Happy (3-1) was happy with a finish in the third spot. His clear run led him to finish a shoulder’s length behind second place, matching Lil Sabatini’s time of 30.02. Fourth place
went to Questhouse Flyer (7-2), who went wide after bounding out of trap six, but went on to have a clear run. His time of 30.08 placed him ¾ lengths out of the top three.
Cairns Dallas, the favourite on 9-4 odds, raced to a disappointing finish in fifth place. He held an early pace out of trap four, but crowded third, losing 2 lengths in the process. He
completed the race in 30.24. Give Me Sunshine (9-2) was not in a sunny mood after finishing last. She also had a clear run, but it was not enough. She was a ½ length out of fifth place in 30.28.
Next on the card was an A1 race that saw Blackhouse Molly (5-1) race to a nice finish. Coming out of trap two, she led second en route to a first-place finish in 29.63. Mustang Observer
(4-1) went wide early on, but ran on to take second place in 29.83. He was 2½ lengths out of the top spot.
Unlocked (4-1) had the keys to third place, and earned his position after crowding first. His time of 29.89 placed him ¾ lengths behind Mustang Observer. The fourth-place finisher was
5-4 favourite Centaur Trader. A clear run landed him in fourth place in 30.05, 2 lengths out of a top-three finish.
Fifth place was claimed by 10-1 long shot Tornaroy Torq. He baulked first, resulting in a loss of 1¾ lengths and a finishing time of 30.19. Rounding out the pack was Sunridge Ruby (6-1),
who also baulked first. She went on to finish sixth in 30.55, with 4½ lengths separating her from fifth place.
The fast-paced greyhound races at Newcastle Greyhound Stadium are slated to continue on Thursday, 28 October with another race meeting. The first race of the evening begins at 18:38.
