While shopping at a target store, i see the guy behind me being tackled to the ground. Im guessing he shoplifted.

Another time, i see the guy right beside me get tackled. Are they even allowed to do this?

after watching this video:

I have no pity for shoplifters, but i don't feel safe walking out that door anymore. Is this just me, or do you find this unsafe to you too? what if the guy had a gun!?

My question is:

How do i tell the manager about my complaints.

And how do they catch the right guy?

  1. Just tell the manager you refuse to shop there anymore as your fearful you will be attacked. And then find the address of the main office ( national ) and file a complaint.

  2. The store security team is allowed to use physical force to secure a violator.  Most of the people on th clip were attempting to flee and it is not easy to contain someone that is determined to escape.

  3. Actually, they are allowed to detain shoplifters by the use of physical force.  You should be happy that they are doing this.  One way places like Target and Wal-Mart keep prices low is by deterring shoplifting.  Shoplifting causes everyone else to pay higher prices on the products we buy.  Shoplifting is not just simply "ripping off the big corporation" it is ripping off every other law abiding customer.

How do they know they got the right guy?  It's called a camera and they are EVERYWHERE in big box retail stores.

  4. Honey I know what you mean , but I've seen shoplifting on the other side of the counter. I worked retail for 21 years. The last eleven was in a very shady neighborhood. I'd rather have management tackling someone to clean out the rift raft so the customers will be safer than letting them go. I know when I saw someone shoplifting I hated for them to think I was so stupid I didn't know what they were doing. I'm 5'5' and I've had big men shoplifters turned around and walk out because I was on to them and they knew it. I know in our store if we had too much of a loss we didn't get a raise for the year and that's hard. I'd tell the manager I appreciate him trying to clean up his store.
