  1. I really don't know alot of it has to do with  the state that you live in and the judges  discretion,  I live in Indiana and awhile ago a friends two younger brothers stole a pack of gum each from Wal-Mart, they were 13 and 15 with no trouble before, they both got community service, probation, and their parents had to end up paying out almost $800 in fines fees and restitution.

  2. It can vary from state to state, store to store/  My 13 year old godson got caught shoplifting about $30 worth of stuff from KMart.  The court sentenced him to "peer court," but KMart's attorney's sent her a bill for $250 to cover the merchandise and their expense dealing with the issue.  When she didn't pay they took her to court for $500, and won.

  3. The "fine" for shoplifting varies from state to state, county to county -  but you can bet it will be more than the cost of the $34.00 item unless they have a community service program in place.  Having little Johnny or Susie pick up trash or serve meals at a homeless shelter will hopefully make him/her think twice before doing it again - and Target won't back down either - they push for the maximum penalty.

  4. probably community service for a day or so.
