Tarla to go well in European Breeders Fund T.A. Morris Memorial Mares Chase at Clonmel
Knockfierna is the one to set standards at Clonmel, but the preference in Thursday’s European Breeders Fund T.A. Morris Memorial Mares Chase is for Tarla, whose error-free run will surely prove decisive. Running off the same weight, Our Girl Salley is also
set to play a significant role.
Tarla has made three superb outings so far this year. After staying out of action for almost two years, W. P. Mullins’ trainee returned to action on a winning note at Roscommon in July. She clinched another excellent triumph at the same venue the following
month.
After two tremendous victories, she lost momentum, and pulled up in the Listowel Races Supporters Club Slan Abhaile (Q.R.) Race in September. It was really a disappointing loss, but the 6-year-old quickly got her act together.
In last month’s Grade-3 Grabel Mares Hurdle, the mare bagged an easy 12-length victory. In the hands of R. Walsh, the 9-10 favourite made all, and jumped fluently. After getting her head in front, the daughter of Lavirco kept extending her advantage, and
comfortably captured the first rank.
Having tasted success thrice so far this season, Tarla is in great rhythm. She has shown true colours on the expected extreme surface before, and should go well again today. She is up against nine contestants in the big meeting.
Over a distance of two miles and four furlongs, the contenders will pursue a prize of €24,375. As per the plan, the event will be kicked off at 14:55 GMT.
Knockfierna won’t be very far away, and is surely one of the chief protagonists. Our Girl Salley has proved herself over this distance before, but a couple of runners still make more appeal.
Our Victoria enters calculations, but one will have to wait for the market response. The probable unsuitability of the trip is a concern for Lead Kindly Light. Special Token hails from an out-of-form stable, and any change in fortune is unlikely.
Glibin is in fairly good heart, but still may come up short today. Avondhu Lady’s yard is in fair form, but David Fenton’s charge still needs to step up to contend. Great Oak, on the other hand, is carrying some chances. Good luck to all.
