Question:

Tarnishing Jewelry?

I run a jewelry buisness, and I love to make earrings, but whenever I do, the earwires ALWAYS tarnish in a very short time! I just use the kind that you get in the craft store, like Blue Moon or Jewelry Shoppe Brands (reliable brands) and I store them in little cotton filled boxes. It is very stressful because whenever I go out to sell, I have to check and replace most of the earwires first! Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening, other than upgrading to sterling silver?

  1. If the earwires tarnish faster than the rest of your sterling silver earrings, you have to look further into it. Make an experiment with other jewelry findings suppliers.

I buy online with Pasternak Findings  http://www.pasternakfindings.com   and highly recommend.

    Sarit.

  2. there is a product called a "sunshine cloth" that has a little chemical added to it.  If you polish your ear wires when you are done handling them, it will keep them brighter, longer.  You can buy them in bulk and sell them to your customers too.  I buy mine at http://www.riogrande.com/

they might be a source of better ear wires too.

  3. Can you not buy stainless steel ear wires?
