Taro Daniel fights past Andrei Daescu in the final qualifier – Sacramento Challenger 2012 CH
Ranked 336th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Taro Daniel, trounced the Romanian professional, Andrei Daescu, in the final qualifier of the RelyAid Natomas Challenger held at the hard courts of California, United States.
The Japanese professional summed up 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win in two hours approximately on the eve of Monday.
The 24-year-old Romanian professional displayed a relatively better first serve in the opener, breaking Daniel’s first serve early to gain some momentum. He took hold of the opportunity and secured the initial two games, stamping
a 2-love lead by the end of the second game. However, the Japanese participant squared the score line to 2-all in the fourth and 3-all in sixth game respectively. Daescu broke his rival’s serve in the very next game and jumped forward to clamp the remaining
three games without any difficulty, stealing the set with a 6-3 lead.
The Romanian senior had a lower initial serve precision of 48 percent, converting nine of 12 first and four of 13 second delivery points. Fortunately, he gained the lead as he capitalized on four of six serve breaks presented.
Daniel, on the other hand, manifested 54 percent initial serve with six of 19 points.
The higher ranked Japanese reversed the winning order in the next set. However, initially he commenced a sloppy start, giving Daescu a 2-0 lead. He slowly gained momentum in the fourth game when he evened out the scores to 2-all.
In the match from that point onward, he broke his rival’s serves and did not give him a single opportunity to dominate. Ultimately, Daniel terminated the set with a 6-3 score.
The right-hander Japanese double faulted three times but had an improved initial serve accuracy of 79 percent, pocketing away 19 of 27 first but none of the second delivery points. Daescu completely lost his charm and attained
56 percent first serve with nine of 15 points.
In the decider, the right-hander Romanian completely lost his passion, as he was unable to respond back to the might of Daniel. The 19-year-old Japanese took advantage of the circumstances and boldly drew the first blood. He took
a flying start in toward the end and broke his opponent’s serve in the fourth and the sixth game respectively. He did not face even a single hindrance by his challenger and he marked the match closure with a bread stick.
