Tarvaris Jackson satisfied with playing for Seattle Seahawks – NFL News
Tarvaris Jackson started his professional National Football League (NFL) career as a backup quarterback at Minnesota Vikings back in 2006. He played five seasons for the Vikings before joining Seattle Seahawks last year and the quarterback seems satisfied
with the team he is playing for at the moment.
With Vikings, his status was affected constantly and despite being the starting quarterback one season, he was serving at backup position in the next.
With Seahawks, his story was a bit different. He began the 2011 season as their regular starter and ended the season on the same note, though there were question marks on his performance.
He played 15 games last season while starting 14. In total, he completed 271 passes of 450 attempts for 3,091 yards and scored 14 touchdowns while throwing 13 interceptions.
Entering the 2012 season, Jackson faces a bit of dilemma. He does not know if he will be the starter as the team has a couple of more options.
Seahawks have signed former Green Bay Packers backup quarterback Matt Flynn this offseason besides selecting Russell Wilson during this year’s draft.
These two are expected to give competition to Jackson for the starting role. Some analysts claim that Flynn will be the starter in Week 1, but the team management is playing cards closer to its chest.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll’s official stance says that the three quarterbacks will be given equal opportunities to prove their worth during training camp and the starter will be named based on that performance.
Even if Jackson does not become their starter, he is finding Seattle a better place than Minnesota. Talking to KSTP-AM in St. Paul, he said:
"It just feels a lot different in Seattle. I feel like I'm welcome there. It was like home. It's a fresh start for me. I was looking forward to it, looking forward to getting that new start somewhere, and so far, it's been good."
He said of the quarterback competition:
“You only know what coaches tell you. Coaches have been pretty straightforward about the competition. It's all you can ask. Just let me know where I stand. That's all you can really ask for -- know the truth and let the best man win."
