Tashi Tsering, Sandhya Rai and Team Gokarna claims success after the Western Union-NGA National Amateur Golf Championship
The Western Union-NGA National Amateur Golf Championship ended yesterday and handed Tashi Tsering a well earned victory in the men´s individual category.
The event was held in Kathmandu at the Royal Nepal Golf Course and observed a remarkable last round play by the golfer from Gokarna Golf Club.
Tsering collected a total of 277 strokes to dominate the leader board with a 17 over the par for a rather long stretch. The winner carded a 71 in the last round of the tournament and thus held a 9 shot front over Sanjay Lama who was representing RNGC.
As for Lama, The tough challenger played only two strokes above the leader and recorded a 73 in his score card. The runner up carded a 6 over par in the last round of the Championship and ended the entire brawl with a total of 236 strokes.
The third spot was claimed by Bikash Bogati who carded a nine over after the last round at the Royal Nepal GC. The golfer from Gokarna Golf Club thus grabbed a 76 to complete his 237 strokes.
From the ladies´ individual category, the top place was awarded to Sandhya Rai. The female golfer from RNGC collected a 26 over par play that handed her a winning 93 on the score card. The leader carded a 67-over-par 206 in total followed by Pushpa Rai from
Gokarna.
The runner up carded a 211 in the total for the individual standings and grabbed a 72 over in conclusion.
The Championship also held the teams’ event and awarded Gokarna men´s Team with the winner’s honour.
The winning team included the likes of golfers Tashi Tsering, Wangchen Dhondup, RK Pradhan and Lobsang Tashi who carded an amazing final score of 266 in the last round of the event. The Gokarna Team collected a total stroke-bucket of 713 and climbed to the
top of the leader board defeating the Tribhuvan Army Officers Golf Club.
The second place holders, Tribhuvan Army Officers Golf Club carded a 736 in total and included the likes of NJ Rayamajhi, Pushkar Rajbahak, Bhuwan Pudasaini and Gajendra Limbu fighting off competition.
The third place was claimed by team RNGC that included the Sanjay Lama, Rabin Rana, Charlie Gurung and Deep B Basnet carding a 744 in total.
Team Gokarna also won the women´s team title and was represented by Mrs Song and Pushpa Rai. The leading women’s team carded a 412 to win the Golf Championship and maintained their cushion over the team RNGC. The runner up team included the likes of Kalpana
Limbu, Sandhya Rai and Uma Tiwari.
The third place was won by the Himalayan Golf Club which was represented by Bina Thapa, Ambika Rana and Tika Gurung.
