Question:

Task Manager missing from Windows Security Screen

I used your instructions to clean up the Joke-bluescreen virus [THANKS A TON!!], but a symptom I noticed right away is that when I hit ctl/alt/del, the Task Manager option is grayed out. How can I get that important tool back?

PS I should have come here first on the blue screen thing. Other sources proved ineffective--they justwanted to sell me software.

  1. My guess is you still have something infecting your system.

Did you run  virus, spyware & malware scans?  If not you need to.

    Spyware: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Pers...

    Malware:  http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_A...

  2. Go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweak... , line 51, right side. Click on "Enable the Task Manager" and download to your desktop.

Double click taskmanager.reg on the desktop and answer yes to the prompts. Reboot.

So what does the Joke-Bluescreen virus do? If it just gives you a fake bluescreen error and reboot simulation during screensaver mode, it does no harm. But either search or look in windows > system32 folder for SysInternalsBluescreen.scr . If found, just delete.the file. There is no un-install routine needed.
