  1. Your first answerer is exactly right. Another for instance is when teaching reading. There is a hierarchy of skills that need to be acquired in consecutive order. First a child must know that a book is something pleasurable. Next they need the concept that letters are symbols. They need to learn all of the letters etc. Some kids can skip some of the stages because they are high functioning in reading. Other kids need to be taught each skill in order. That is why it is so important to know how to do task analysis in special education. If you teach too much at once, the child will fail to understand and may give up.

  2. i;m not familar with "gcse" course. but if i;m not wrong, task-analysis refers to the notion of breaking a task into basic, simplest step. its a concept widely used in teaching young children/children with special needs where their cognitive abilities will benefit from learning in small, simpler steps. eventually, these small and simple steps will piece and chain together and bingo! the child is able to perform the entire task.

for example, task-analysis of brushing teeth:

    (1) holding the toothbrush

    (2) squeezing the toothpaste

    (3) squeeze toothpaste onto toothbrush

    (4) ...

    (5)...

    (6) and so on, etc...

the idea is to teach each child each individual step! thats why u need to "analyse" the task!

    :)

    good luck!
