Tasmania are in a very good position in the final of the Sheffield Shield against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
The hosts ended day four of the five-day match with 17 runs on the board without losing any wicket, and they further require 186 more to win on the final day of play on Monday.
The wicket is still very good for batting and the match was headed towards a draw, but a surprise declaration from the NSW captain Simon Katich has ensured that the match will have a definite result.
Earlier, Tasmania scored 453 runs in their first innings, which gave them a 13-run lead over the visitors. The highlight of the innings was a superb century from opening batsman Ed Cowan. He scored 133 runs from 329 balls and struck 18 fours in his innings.
Apart from the Cowan innings, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Faulkner-c1643 also batted well and scored solid half-centuries for their team. Butterworth got out after scoring 88 runs whereas Faulkner managed 71 runs in his innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Rohrer-c1139, both of whom grabbed three wickets each.
The start to the second innings for the visitors was dismal, as they lost a couple of wickets early. David Warner and Pakistan-born http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729 were both dismissed after adding two runs each to the total.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phil-Jaques-c2182 held the innings together for their team and shared a brilliant century stand. The pair amassed 183 runs for the third wicket and took the total to 187. Hughes missed out on a century, as he was sent back to the pavilion
after scoring 93 runs.
He was followed by Jaques, who also failed to score a ton. The veteran left-hander was dismissed after scoring 94 runs. He was unlucky, as he was run out courtesy some efficient work from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Doolan-c983.
At 215 for the loss of 5 wickets, Katich declared the innings and gave a target of 203 runs to the home team.
Ben Hilfenhaus was brilliant in the second innings with his two wickets while the other wicket taker was Faulkner who took one.
At stumps on day four, both Tasmanian openers Nick Kruger and Ed Cowan were unbeaten on 4 and 13 respectively. They will look forward to giving a solid start to their team in order to win the Sheffield Shield.
