Tasmania Tigers trounce New South Wales Waratahs,7-2: Hockey Recap
Tasmania Tigers trounced New South Wales (NSW) Waratahs by 7-2 in the ongoing men’s Australian Hockey League. Luke Doerner scored four goals in the game between Tasmanian Tigers and NSW Waratahs that was played in Canberra on June 12, 2011.
Tasmania Tigers' Eddie Ockenden, who is also part of the Australia's national team, contributed three goals in the victory.
The opening game started with fast pace, where both the teams carried out back-to-back strikes against each other. However, the defence-line from the both the sides exhibited impressive performance in the opening minutes of the first half in order to keep the game alive.
With eighth minutes into the game, Tasmania earned their first short-corner of the game and tested Luke Doerner who didn’t miss the opportunity. He executed the shot in a wonderful way that swayed into the NSW's goal-post, opening the score at 1-0. In a matter of three minutes, the Tasmanian side earned another short-corner and once again Doerner hit the net. He struck a powerful low-flying shot at the NSW's goal in the 11th minute of the game to double the lead up to two goals, 2-0.
After conceding two goals, the strikers from NSW Waratahs carried out attacks and Adam Imer managed to get into the defensive circle of Tasmania and notched the first goal in the 13th minute of the match.
In the 16th minute of the game, Tasmania earned a penalty-stroke, which was converted into a goal by Doerner. In the 25th minute of the game, Eddie Ockenden scored his first goal and took the game completely into his team's favour. In a matter of three minutes, Doerner continued his best show and scored his fourth goal of the game in the 28th minute by converting a short-corner and extended the lead up to four goals, 5-1. In the series of goals, Ockenden added another goal from the field in the 32nd minute of the game and stretched the lead up to five goals. Tasmania was sitting ahead with a lead of 6-2 at the end of the first half of play.
The second half of play was quite slow, as only two goals were scored. Ockenden scored a goal in the 56th minute for Tasmania Tigers, while NSW Waratahs' Kieran Govers answered it with a single goal through a short-corner in the 65th minute of the match. Finally, the Tasmania Tigers team rode away from the field by a five-goal margin at 7-2.
