Tasmania completed a dominant win against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 (WA) by 40 runs in the Big Bash Twenty20 tournament. Batting first at Hobart, Tasmania scored 170, the tally WA fell well short of.
George Bailey won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the start wasn’t what the team had expected. Opener Jonathan Wells was out early for a duck and first-drop Ed Cowan also didn’t last longer. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 were struggling with 2 wickets down for just
39 runs.
The fall of wickets didn’t bother the Tasmanian skipper and he played confidently when he came out to bat. He was complemented nicely by opener Mark Cosgrove.
The pair took the total to 112 with a solid 73-run partnership, enabling the team to post a massive total. Cosgrove got out after scoring a well-constructed 49 whereas Bailey scored a brilliant 51 off 30 balls.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Travis-Birt-c2707 carried on the momentum for his team and scored a cameo knock of 25 runs in just 13 balls.
The tall off-spinner Jason Krejza and Rhett Lockyear took the total to 170 in the end with some hefty blows. Krejza remained unbeaten on 14 runs and Lockyear scored quick 12 runs before getting out.
Michael Swart did the damage for his team in the middle of his innings as he dismissed three Tasmanian batsmen. He got good support from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sajid-Mahmood-c88005, who took two wickets.
The start to the WA innings was terrible as they lost four batsmen for just 37 runs. Luke Ronchi was the only batsmen who offered some resistance to the Tasmanian bowlers, as he scored 43 runs off just 29 balls.
Apart from Ronchi, all the other batsmen struggled, and the team could only manage 130 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the 20 overs.
Jason Krejza was excellent with the ball and he didn’t give anything away to the WA batsmen. He took 2 wickets in the match for 17 runs in his spell of four overs. He was well supported by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Faulkner-c1643 as young left-arm medium pacer also took two wickets
for 19 runs in his four overs.
Tasmanian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 was named as the player of the match owing to his exceptional knock that helped his team construct a match-winning total.
