Tasmania dominate first day’s play against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 in Sheffield Shield
New South Wales (NSW) were below par in their first innings against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 in a Sheffield Shield match at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. The visitors were bowled-out for just 74 runs on the first day of the four-day match.
The wicket had swing and bounce in it, which forced Tasmanian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 to field first after winning the toss. His decision proved to be devastating for the visitors, as they lost their batsmen within 100 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phillip-Hughes-c2185 didn’t look comfortable at the crease at all, as they played and missed quite a few deliveries. Maddinson was the first man to be dismissed, after scoring just three runs. He was followed by Hughes, who managed only seven.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Forrest-c2176 weren’t able to rescue their team from trouble, as they were sent back to the pavilion early. Forrest was out for a duck whereas; Jaques scored just one run.
The hosts were in full control, as NSW were four down for just 11 runs. NSW Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Rohrer-c1139 at the crease. However, they also failed to put together a solid partnership for their team.
Rohrer was dismissed after adding just six runs to the total. Henriques looked good for his 15 runs, but he wasn’t able to carry onto the start he got.
Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Nevill-c2180 top scored the innings with 24 runs. He did get some support from Scott Coyte, but both players failed to stay at the crease for too long. Coyte didn’t get any support from the tail-enders, and he was the last wicket to
fall, after scoring 17 runs.

The hosts got their innings off to a very good start, as Nick Kruger scored a brilliant century. He was unbeaten on 124 runs at close of the first day’s play. Ed Cowan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Doolan-c983 were dismissed after getting starts of 22 and 25 respectively.
However, Bailey put together an unbeaten partnership of 81 runs with Kruger, and the pair took their team’s total to 204. Bailey was not-out on 25 runs when play was called-off by the umpires.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trent-Copeland-c2709 was the lone wicket-taker for the visitors. He got some good support from the fielders, as Cowan was run-out courtesy some efficient work from Steve O’Keefe.
Tasmania will be looking forward to batting just once in this match. They already have a lead of 130 runs, with eight wickets remaining.
