Tasmania in a dominant position against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 until tea at day-two
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 took a 279 run first innings lead against New South Wales (NSW) in their Sheffield Shield match, being played at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart. In reply, NSW were 27 without any wicket until tea at day-two.
The wicket had some assistance for the bowlers on the first day. However, conditions were much easier for batting today, but the massive first innings lead by Tasmania may prove to be decisive in this match.
Nick Kruger and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 resumed the innings for Tasmania today. They were unbeaten on 124 and 25 respectively. They were in a very good position with just two wickets down for 204 runs.
The first wicket to fall in the day was of the Tasmanian captain Bailey, who scored 46 runs. He would have liked to score a half-century. However, he had guided his team to a very sound position.
Soon after the departure of Tasmanian captain, Kruger was also sent back to the pavilion. The opening batsman was terrific for his team, as he amassed 150 runs before getting out. His score was more than double the first innings total of NSW.
The fall of two overnight set batsmen saw a collapse for the lower middle-order, as most batsmen failed to capitalize on their starts. Mark Cosgrove and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Faulkner-c1643 got out after adding 12 and 10 runs to the total respectively.
Xavier Doherty, who missed the opportunity to represent his team in the ICC World Cup 2011 due to an injury, took his team’s total to 353, with a steady innings of unbeaten 35 runs. However, Doherty ran out of partners from the other end.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trent-Copeland-c2709 and Scott Coyte took three wickets each for their team, but they didn’t get much support from the other bowlers.
NSW had to bat for a few overs before tea, and they managed to see the session through without losing a wicket. They reached 27, with both openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nic-Maddinson-c2099 unbeaten on 22 and 5 respectively.
There is plenty of time left in the match and Tasmania will be looking forward to win the match by an innings. However, NSW will be expecting a better batting performance by their team.
