Tasmania outplay ACT by 6-3 in U-21 Australian National Hockey Championship
Billy Shaw scored a couple of goals and had an assist, as Tasmania thrashed ACT by three goals, 6-3 in the Day 5 game of the U-21 Australian National Hockey Championship being held at the Perth Hockey Stadium.
The Tasmanians started the game brilliantly, but failed to outplay the opposite ACT in the first half. As per the expectations, Tasmania and ACT unfolded the game cautiously and swapped a couple of goals in the first thirty-five minutes of play.
In the 9th minute of the match, Tasmania earned a short-corner and gave William Lawler an opportunity to put his team ahead on the score-board. He hit a reverse drag-flick which moved into the ACT's goal.
The ACT's strikers were also playing a very fast-paced game and tied the results within the next three minutes. They earned a short-corner in the 12th minute, when Lewis Shepherd scored off a penalty-corner and had it all even at one-each.
In the later time, the Tasmanian players carried out plenty of attacks, but the defensemen from the other side were strong enough to deny these efforts. In an unprecedented way, ACT succeeded to establish their dominance on the field in the 25th minute.
Richard Howson played a reverse-shot that gave Arin Doig a chance to tap the ball which he did not miss. With two minutes in hands, Angus Boulton scored a goal and levelled the score at 2-2 at the end of the first round.
Billy Shaw converted a couple of goals respectively, in the 44th and 47thminutes, while his team-mate, Jeremy Edwards, accounted a solitary effort in the 50th minute.
Though the attackers from ACT cranked up their offence in the 62nd minute of the match, but it was the only effort from them in the second period. Dom Mcfarlane notched a goal from the field and made a reduction into the Tasmania lead. With one
minute remaining into the time-completion, Adam Millar scored a goal and sealed the victory for Tasmania at 6-3.
In the later time, Victoria drew a game against New South Wales (NSW). In the 11th minute, Adam Seccull converted a short-corner to draw the first blood for Victoria.
The NSW players in the counter-offence made a large number of penetrations into the defensive circle of Victoria, but to no avail. With one minute remaining into the first half, Oscar Wookey scored off a penalty-corner and doubled the tally at the completion
of first period, 2-0.
The second period completely belonged to NSW which obtained two goals, while holding Victoria goal-less. Tristan White and Joshua Walters scored one goal each in the 50th and 54th minutes and managed to draw the game by 2-2.
