Tasmania take 26-run lead over Western Australia in Sheffield Shield fixture: Day 2, Lunch
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 took a 26-run first innings lead against Western Australia until lunch on the second day of their Sheffield Shield game.
The match is being played at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 Cricket Association ground in Perth.
The wicket was a good strip for batting and apart from some bounce, it had nothing alarming for the batsmen.
Tasmania started the day with their overnight unbeaten openers Nick Kruger (38) and Ed Cowan. (29) The pair played with confidence and extended their opening partnership to 137 in order to get closer to Western Australia’s first innings total of 160. They
would have liked to carry on and give a lead to their team, but Kruger was dismissed after making a splendid half-century for his team.
The left-handed opener amassed 68 runs off 141 balls before being dismissed. His wicket brought http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Doolan-c983 in the middle.
The one down player constructed a 40-run partnership with Cowan and guided his team over the first innings total of the hosts. However, Cowan lost focus just at the brink of lunch and gave his wicket away when he was looking to score a big century for the
visitors.
He constructed 81 runs off 174 balls and batted with patience throughout his innings. He would have liked to stay much longer at the crease but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Hogan-c1956 had the better of him.
The second wicket brought Tasmanian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 at the crease and he made sure that his team did not lose any further wickets in the first session.
Doolan was unbeaten on 22 whereas Bailey only faced one ball for his 1 run when the session was called off by the umpires.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Beer-c1949 and Hogan were the wicket takers for the home team. Both of them will be hoping to get some quick wickets in the second session of play and restrict Tasmania to the lowest score possible.
On the other hand, the visitors will be eying a big first innings lead and then possibly bowl out the Western Australia batsmen within that lead.
