Tasmania v Queensland – Sheffield Shield (12th Match) – Match Recap [Day 2]
After losing day 1 owing to thunderstorms and a tornado warning, Queensland went on to dominate the second day of play during their ongoing Sheffield Shield match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart today on November 10, led largely by 4-wicket
hauls from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Cutting-c1132, followed by centurion Usman Khawaja’s superb knock.
Queensland won the toss and decided to field first – a decision which was justified by the performances of Feldman (10-0-33-4) and Cutting (8.1-1-25-4), both of whom were supported by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cameron-Gannon-c49154 (7-2-25-2). Faced with the Bulls’ focused attack, the Tigers
underwent a complete batting order collapse, putting forth a dismal performance.
With http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Dunk-c1133 and Mark Cosgrove – the former top-scored for the team with a dismal 22, while the latter was dismissed lbw by Feldman in the
3rd over, after a meagre 4-run contribution.
The remainder of the Tigers’ innings continued in a similarly disappointing vein. In addition to Dunk, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TD-Paine-c2652 (10) were the only other batsmen who managed to register double-digit
scores. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aiden-Blizzard-c958 was dismissed on duck, and the rest of the batting order only managed to last until the 26th over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jackson-Munro-Bird-c65187 (1), and Sam Rainbird (3*) chipped in with small scores, but none were able to face up to the Bulls’ attack, with the Tigers eventually succumbing, all out, at a shocking final total
of 95.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834, meanwhile, were fairly successful in racking up the runs, owing largely to a solid century from Khawaja (138), who hit 2 sixes and 21 fours throughout his innings. However, the Tigers redoubled their efforts after their disappointing turn at
bat, and Faulkner (17-5-77-3), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bird-c48123 (21-4-77-2), and Butterworth (19-4-57-2) ensured that the Bulls’ batsmen did not get off easy.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Forrest-c2176 (25) for a 84-run partnership for the third wicket, and their combined efforts got
the Bulls up to 114.
After http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Hartley-c1243 (20) followed suit. Coming in at number 8, Cutting chipped in with a useful 40, in addition to setting up a 64-run partnership
with Khawaja.
Cutting was eventually sent packing by Bird in the 76th over, and Khawaja was finally dislodged, in the very next over – trapped lbw by Butterworth. By stumps on day 2, the Bulls had gained a significant upper-hand, and with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NM-Hauritz-c2122 (4*)
and Gannon (7*) at the crease, finished at 319 for 8.
