Tasmania v South Australia – Sheffield Shield, 2012/13 (9th Match) – Match Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 succeeded in ending a prolonged Sheffield Shield wins drought by securing their first victory in 21 matches at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart, where they claimed a 15-run win over Tasmania during a first-class match played from November 1 to
3.
The match kicked off with Tasmania winning the toss and electing to field first. The Tigers then proceeded to launch a fierce attack led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Butterworth-c1850 (11.1-5-14-2) chipping in with supporting
performances.
Sam Raphael (22), skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kane-Richardson-c1765 (15) were the only three batsmen who managed to reach double figures – the rest gave their wickets away without much of a fight, and the Tigers’ bowlers swept the board clean on the first day
of play, with the Redbacks cut off, all out, at a dismal total of 112.
However, Tasmania did not fare any better during their first innings. The Redbacks launched a fierce attack, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richardson-c85395 (10-4-22-2) featuring as the more prominent bowlers. Much like the
Redbacks’ first innings, only three of the Tigers’ batsmen – skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aiden-Blizzard-c958 (30), and wicketkeeper batsman Ben Dunk (45) – were able to contribute double-digit scores. The rest remained insipid, and on the second day of play, the
Tigers were limited, all out, to 138.
South Australia’s second innings saw the batsmen faring a little better than they did during their first turn at bat. All five of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jackson-Munro-Bird-c65187 (16-4-48-3), Butterworth (19.2-8-40-3), and
Hilfenhaus (26-5-83-2) played prominent roles. Travis Head (75), Daniel Christian (50), and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CJ-Ferguson-c1264 (41) all put up a fight, but by the third and final day of play, the Redbacks fizzled out, and found themselves all out at 237.
However, their bowlers managed an effective defence of the total, with Richardson (16-4-34-4), Sayers (21-6-53-2), and Botha (7-1-14-2) all making sure the Tigers were not able to complete the chase. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 had pulled out of the remainder of the game
owing to hamstring tightness, and the rest of the batsmen remained lacklustre, with only Luke Butterworth (57) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Dunk-c1133 (34) managing respectable scores. By the end of day 3, the Tigers were all out at 196, with South Australia going on to claim a 15-run
win.
