Tasmania v Western Australia – Ryobi One-Day Cup, 2012/13 (14th Match) – Match Update – Tasmania clinch comfortable 85-run win
Vital half-tons, followed by incisive four-wicket hauls from the impressive duo of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 Warriors, in the 14th match of the ongoing Ryobi One-Day
Cup, played at the West Park Oval in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gerard-Denton-c1483 today on December 1.
Tasmania kicked the match off by winning the toss and choosing to bat first, but their top and middle order failed to do justice to the decision, plagued as they were by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nathan-Coulter-Nile-c2070 (13-0-65-3).
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Doolan-c983 (14), Jonathan Wells (14), and Jordan Silk (1) were all
similarly insipid, and served as easy pickings for Hogan. By the 22nd over, the Tigers were at a precarious 51 for 6.
However, a massive 114-run partnership for the 7th wicket, between Faulkner (66) and Gulbis (57*), revived the innings to a great degree, and got the Tigers up to 165 by the 48th over. Faulkner was eventually bowled by Coulter-Nile,
but Gulbis guided the team through to the end, and aided by Jason Krejza (13) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/XJ-Doherty-c2804 (1*), got Tasmania up to a total of 192 by the end of 50 overs, at the expense of 8 wickets.
Faulkner (13-2-32-4) and Gulbis (10.3-0-36-4) then proceeded to put in equally impressive performances with the ball, and aided by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jackson-Munro-Bird-c65187 (12-2-30-2), executed a successful defence of their team’s mediocre total.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Travis-Birt-c2707 (4) remained lacklustre, while
skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Voges-c925, wicketkeeper batsman Tom Triffitt, and Hilton Cartwright were all dismissed on duck.
Lower-order batsmen Coulter-Nile (20) and Hogan (14) attempted to get their team back in the running, but their efforts proved too little, too late. Tail-enders Behrendorff (2*) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Beer-c1949 (5) continued the disappointing trend their team had fallen
into, and by the end of 50 overs, the Warriors were cut off at 107, all out, with Tasmania securing an emphatic 85-run victory.
