Tasmanian Championships: Meg Graham stuns Abigail Rothery to claim Girl’s Singles U19 crown
Meg Graham, a talented player from Australia, stole the limelight as she claimed Girl’s Singles U19 crown after putting up stunning show of top quality badminton against her higher ranked team-mate Abigail Rothery in the final battle at the 2012 Tasmanian
Championships on Sunday, August 12, in Australia.
The passionate Meg, who participated in the championship as an un-seeded player, continued her giant killing run on court and toppled top seeded Abigail in the title match by showing her remarkable skills.
The lower ranked Meg played killing badminton as she showed her aggressive skills on court. She remained successful in giving a severe lesson to Abigail by ending up the contest in straight games with a smashing margin on the score board.
On the other hand, the higher ranked Abigail was shocked with the powerful play of her un-seeded rival on court. She tried her best but failed to prove her mettle against the in-form Meg and lost to her without winning any game.
In the first set, both ladies showed a wonderful exchange of rallies but it was Meg who gradually occupied the driving seat aiming to create pressure on her opponent.
The impressive Meg left no stone unturned in gearing up her speed and she managed a tremendous lead on score board until the one-minute mid-game interval in first set.
After the break, Meg remained on track while her challenger could not show up her brilliance at any stage.
The underdog Meg continued her smooth sailing and easily wrapped up opening game with a stunning 21-12 score on the board.
In the following set, Abigail lifted up her level of play by playing aggressive badminton and she managed to remain close to her gritty rival until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Meg remained consistent in her smooth ride on court as she did not spare any chance for her rival to fight back into the match.
The lower ranked Meg played with precision in the ending points of second game and won it with a comfortable 21-16 margin on the board.
The lofty Meg emerged as victorious in the title match with a spectacular margin of 21-12 and 21-16.
