Tate’s Landing to keep his winning momentum intact in the Dania Beach Stakes
The Grade 3, $100,000 Dania Beach Stakes has reeled in 10 juvenile colts to contest over 1 mile over the Gulfstream Park’s turf course on 15 December, 2012.
Among the lineup of 10 is the $100,000 Laurel Futurity winner, Tate’s Landing, who in his first start on turf defeated Star Maneuver by a convincing margin of 3 ¼ lengths on 27 October, 2012, going Five and one-half furlongs at Laurel Park.
The Laurel Futurity was Tate’s Landing’s second career win in four starts, and in the stakes race under jockey Alex Cintron the colt settled nicely three wide, while stalking a pace battle between  three horses.
Tate’s Landing ran well within himself, and while entering the lane, he put his head down and aimed for the front runner, and with three-sixteenths to go, the dark bay colt by Orientate took command of the situation and got clear of all challenges.
Inside the eighth pole, Michael V. Pino trained colt wandered on the outside, and that is when Alex Cintron corrected the run and inside the sixteenth marker, the duo went well clear of the field and under strong urging they increased their advantage until hitting the wire home free.
"We always thought he was a nice horse," said trainer Michael Pino. "He won his first start impressively and got beat by a pretty nice horse in his second race at Parx. Then he got in a speed duel and tired in his third race.
"We decided to change his style for the Laurel Futurity and take him off the pace, and it obviously worked out well. I really don't think it was just the turf that made the difference. We'll certainly consider going back to dirt at some point."
Out of Forestry mare Treetop Landing, Tate’s Landing won his debut impressively, as he went on to defeat maidens by 5 ½ lengths at Delaware Park, and then participated in an allowance race at Parx Racing and finished second there.
Back at Delaware Park, Tate’s Landing participated in an allowance optional claimer and for the first time in three starts finished off the board in fifth over the track’s dirt course on 11 October.
