Tatia Mikadze’s express victory over Nina Khrisanova in the first round – Baku Cup 2011
Georgian, Tatia Mikadze had an express victory over Russian Nina Khrisanova in the first round of the Baku Cup 2011. Both the players battled against each other on an acrylic rukort hard court at the Baku Tennis Academy in Baku,
Azerbaijan. Tatia steamrolled passed her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in a speedy fifty minutes and twelve seconds.
Serving first was the 16-year-old Russian who was no competition for Tatia; she had not managed to smash an ace or even hold a strong defence! She had less than half the score of her opponent and was no match for the Georgian.
Her accuracy faltered during the match and struck 2 double faults out of which one was a line fault and one hit the net. While Tatia took the advantage of the 16-year-old and managed to avail three out of five break point opportunities. Her defence was like
a wall at the back of the net and kept bouncing back everything that came her way thus giving no break point advantages. On her first serve she won eight two percent of her points almost twice as many as Nina’s (forty six percent). Summing up; the set was
dominated by Tatia and she won with a grand seventy one percent of her total set points whereas her opponent was lacking miserably and lost the set by winning only twenty nine percent of her total set points.
Bruised black and blue in the first set one would’ve expected Nina to jump right back into the game. However that was a utopian dream for the 16-year-old and not to mention she didn’t even try! In the second set even though Nina
improved her serve she was unable to keep up to her opponents pace and had a very poor return game. Again striking two double faults on the net and giving three break point advantages to her opponent she lost the second set with a total score of ten out of
thirty five. Whereas her opponent again utilizing three out four break points to her advantage surpassed the Russian. Like a fortress she stood her ground not letting her opponent break through her defence she had given no break points to her rival. Her service
and return game was superb and hence, won the set with 6-0.
Despite the age factor, Tatia’s presence was felt all over the court dominating her rival she won the match 2-0. Across the board; she had struck only one double fault threw no break points and won the match with almost forty two
percent more points than her opponents.
She will now be facing Evgeniya Rodina or her compatriot Anna Tatishvili in the second round of the Baku Cup 2011.
