Tatiana Lemos Lima earns Women’s 100m freestyle gold: Day one – 2011 Brazilian Open LC Championships
Tatiana Lemos Lima of ECP/SABESP proved her dominance by earning gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on initial day of the 2011 Brazilian Open Long Course Championships in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday, December 15.
The 33-year-old Lemos Lima served notice of her talent by devastating hopes of her competitors in the 100m freestyle. She occupied gold spot of the race by concluding her swim in a fantastic time of 55.78 seconds.
Her fascinating effort remained just 1.06 seconds slower than the championship mark of 54.72 seconds, set by Lemos Lima in 2009. She was also 3.71 seconds behind the world record of 52.07 seconds, held by Britta Steffen of Germany from 2009 Rome World Championships.
With her promising swim, the gold medallist remained 0.90 seconds ahead of her following swimmer and her team-member, Flavia Delaroli-Cazziolato, who reached the victory stand for silver medal by posting a time of 56.68 seconds.
The 28-year-old Delaroli-Cazziolato stayed 0.19 seconds faster from her former finisher and reached the finishing wall with a timing of 56.87 seconds for bronze medal. She was followed by Michelle Lenhardt of ECP/SABESP, who was 0.13 seconds behind the third
position holder and touched the finishing blockade with an effort of 57.00 seconds for fourth position.
Meanwhile, the arena witnessed an exhausting effort of Manuella Lyrio of MINAS TC and Ana Carolina Araujo Santos of ECP/SABESP, who were just a nail away from their preceding swimmer and concluded their sprints with an identical time of 57.04 seconds for
fifth position.
In the meantime, Araujo Santos’s team-mate, Carolina Malavazzi Penteado remained just 0.22 seconds slower than her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing wall for seventh fastest spot by submitting a time of 57.26 seconds.
The 20-year-old Penteado was trailed by MINAS TC’s Jessica Bruin Cavalheiro, who stayed 0.37 seconds away from overwhelming the effort of her former finisher and ended her swim in a time of 57.63 seconds for eighth position.
The arena admired breath-taking efforts of all participants in the double lap freestyle event while the winners collected their medals after the completion of session.
