Tatiane Mayumi Sakemi grabs Women’s 100m breast-stroke gold: Day three – 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy
Tatiane Mayumi Sakemi of ECP/SABESP grabbed the gold medal of Women’s 100m breast-stroke swim on day three of the 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy on September 1, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Sakemi acquired the top fastest spot of the swim to prove her supremacy for the gold medal, by submitting a wonderful time of 1 minute and 12.17 seconds. She was nearly eight seconds slower than the world record of American swimmer, Jessica Hardy, who clocked
a time of 1 minute and 04.45 seconds in 2009. Likewise, the 25-year-old Sakemi was 2.33 seconds behind her own championship mark of 1 minute and 09.84 seconds, set by Sakemi in 2011.
The gold medallist was followed by Renata Paula Sander of FIAT MINAS, who remained only 0.56 seconds slower than her on the concluding wall and posted a time of 1 minute and 12.73 seconds for silver medal. Sander was followed by Sakemi’s team-member, Beatriz
Azzolini Travalon, who posted a 0.66 seconds slower time of 1 minute and 13.39 seconds for bronze medal.
Sakemi looked strong from the starting blocks and upon the start of the race, she gained a slight lead over her competitors, finishing her first lap with a lead of 0.40 seconds over Sander and 0.07 seconds over Travalon. Subsequently, she was able to augment
her lead in the final lap, where she touched the wall first and claimed the gold medal.
Travalon was chased by her team-mate, Ana Carla Carvalho, who remained just 0.01 seconds away from claiming the bronze medal and ended fourth with a timing of 1 minute and 13.40 seconds. Similarly, Sander’s team-member, Juliana Marangoni Marin earned fifth
fastest spot of the swim by reporting in a time of 1 minute and 13.79 seconds.
Moments later, the spectators witnessed an exhausting swim of CORINTHIANS/S.BERNAR’s Michele Sambugari Schmidt, who remained 0.24 seconds slower than her preceding swimmer and claimed sixth position in a time of 1 minute and 14.03 seconds. Schmidt managed
a lead of 0.10 seconds over Lais Rodrigues, as she ended up her swim in the seventh place, by clocking a time of 1 minute and 14.13 seconds.
Thamy Ventorin of FIAT/MINAS appeared on the finishing wall for the eighth fastest spot, as she was 2.44 seconds slower than Rodrigues and produced a time of 1 minute and 16.57 seconds.
Sakemi was very happy with her victory in the breast-stroke event. Furthermore, the crowd enjoyed thrilling swims of all participants, whereas, the winners were placed on the victory stand for their superb efforts after the session’s completion.
