i got my tattoo (princess and a heart) on my wrist on tuesday

and i've followed the instructions on what you have to do for the first 3 days (put savalon on then wrap it in clingfilm) but now ive removed the clingfilm and just leaving it and put the salvalon on every few hours

is this okay? or should i be doing something else?

and when will the skin peel off and scab over as ive head other people say that happens

and will it look yicky when a scab comes lol

thanks!

  1. You can always use spray on savalon to keep it clean or just clean it with dettol. Use Vaseline on it as well, it will help with the scab and it will preserve the colour while it's healing. Try not to have the urge to pick the scab though! The scab shouldn't be too bad, but it's only for a short time. Think how good it will look when it has healed up.

  2. moistuasure

  3. You should be washing it.  Wash it three times a day with dial soap from the PUMP not the bar (bars can hold bacteria) and put lotion on it when it's dry but don't OVER lotion it.

  4. It will peel off over the next week-two weeks. You best bet and cheapest option would be to use Vitamin E oil on your tattoo. Always keep it moist. I used H2Ocean Lotion which works wonders and you don't have to deal with the stickiness like with the E.  It won't look "yicky" but it will look like a scab that you had from a cut for the time being. Don't scratch it no matter how itchy it is and don't peel the scab either. And always remember it is an open wound until it fully heals, so keep it clean. Dial soap is the best, but I have used Dove and nothing happened.

Shame on your tattoo artist for not telling you what to do.

  5. wash your tattoo with the hottest water you can stand to open the pores. Then gently clean the tattoo, being careful not to scratch or scrape the sensitive area. Then rinse with the coldest water you can stand to close the pores back up. Once that is done, you should keep the tattoo moistened with unscented, basic plain skin lotion.

  6. It will be inevitable that it will scab over but you do not need to use any more after care methods, although savlon is fine to continue using on it.

Do not use vaseline as it draws out the colour and causes fading more quickly.

It is really going to itch as it heals but DO NOT pick at it. If you do then the tattoo ends up patchy and looks awful.

But besides all that - it should be fine!

  7. Yes it sounds okay, the skin won't peel if you keep salve or vaseline on it,yes it would look a little icky if it scabbed, but it shouldn' if you keep it lubricated.

  8. What you're doing is fine. Just make sure you are putting a really thin layer of it on so that your skin can still breathe.

I've got 5 tattoos and a couple of them BARELY scabbed and one did quite a bit of scabbing (although it was much bigger).

I'm a huge fan of using A&D ointment on them (the clear ointment that looks like neosporin, not the one that is white like toothpaste). It has worked the best for me and everyone I know uses it on theirs as well...it's in the diaper aisle if you want to try it.

As for when it will peel/scab is hard to say. Some parts of it may scab and others might not do anything.  People heal differently. Just don't cover it with clingwrap anymore and you'll be fine.

Just DON'T scratch it if it itches no matter WHAT you do, and make sure to keep putting salve or A&D on it until it's totally healed so it doesn't dry out.  And make sure to wash it with a MILD soap (Johnson & Johnson's makes a good liquid soap that they use at my tattoo artist's shop and any drugstore will have it).

    Hope that helps! =)
