Question:

Tattoo and piercing Snobs?

Im in my young 20's and I've noticed more and more people my age are getting covered with tattoo's and piercing. I've been wanting to get a tattoo my self, but haven't decided on what to get or where to get it. I've been noticing when I goto house parties and bars there seems a bias against people with out tattoo's or pericings. It seems to be considered to be uncool and boring if you don't have tattoos. It seems that some people are getting Tattoo's and pericings just so they fit in. I always believed tattoo's were a very personal thing, and an art form, but to just get them to fit in?

So have any of you noticed people being snobs to you because you don't have any tattoo's or piercings?

Or

Have you seen people getting tattoo's just to try to fit in with the crowd?

  1. well thats interesting because to me it always seems the other way around. it seems people always act stuck up when they see all my tattoos, like its wrong to have them. personally i treat everyone the same, whether you got one or not i could really care less- its your body and your choice.

but i do agree with you that more and more ppl are gettin tattoos just because its "cool" to do so right now because of kat von di. i think thats pretty stale. i was gettin ink before she even came out lol.

  2. I have encountered the snobs.

My tattoos actually have a lot of meaning to me

  3. Sadily yes on both. The mod Snobs are hard to deal with because they consider themselves "hard core" and are just all around pompus. It's their way of fighting back against people who judge mods. and in turn it converts people into lemmings so they go out and get tattooed and pierced to be part of the crowd. It's sad honestly, and anyone that is has tattoos or piercings for the beauty and self expression of them are not going to be that way. I find that someone with a blank canvas is just as beautiful as someone who has mods. I respect a person that doesn't have ink because they can't decide on what they want. Unfortunately humans will always do what it takes to fit in with the crowds they're desperate to seek approval from. I feel that as long as you are being yourself in the decisions you make you are on the right path. It's sad when people let strangers dictate how they see themselves.

  4. The most stupid thing people can do is get a tattoo to fit in, or to be cool.  Tattoos are not about that, they are not meant as fashion statements.  I am never mean to anyone when I meet them so I have to say I have never been biased to anyone whether they have tattoos or not

  5. I haven't noticed that

but around here, hardly anybody is tattooed

    I'm sure it happens

but I'm also sure it depends on the crowd you're hanging around with

and if anybody is going to judge you on having or not having tattoos....they usually aren't worth hanging around with

  6. no... i hang around a lot of tattoo/piercing snobs (i guess i am one, myself)... but it's not that we don't like people without anything. i mean i think that people with virgin skin are beautiful. and i actually prefer a guy without anything. (shock and awe!).

i think it's just that people with tattoos seem like they're the only ones who accept each other. i get intimidated by virginskins. i feel like they're judging me... i guess it's because i start thinking about "hmm... wonder why they don't have anything? are they religious? do they think it's ugly? trashy? gross? do they think i'm gross? guess i just won't say anything then..."

lol. sounds RIDICULOUS. i know. but that's just how i roll. i hate it. but whenever i see other people on the streets or in stores with tatts, i feel like i can talk to them. and usually end up chatting about the designs and stuff. it's a real conversation starter.

but you're totally right on with the whole, "it's a personal decision" thing. any kind of permanent body alteration should be thought about for plenty of time in advance and should hold a special/personal meaning to you. all of mine do. and that's sometimes what sparks those conversations. i love learning about people and their experiences... tattoos just make it that much easier to do. you know?

people who get shetty tattoos just to fit in are COMPLETE posers... complete lameasses... completely ignored by me. they're usually 100% obvious because they usually get like, some kind of pre-drawn out tribal tattoo or like... their zodiac sign as a tramp-stamp or something. ugh. i hate that sooo much. yeah. they're ruining their social status/lives and wasting their time and money.

    good question.

  7. i've realized too that alot of people get tattoos out on a limb just to get them as well. i have a friend who did that... she thinks her tat looks amazing but it actually looks like ****. i havent had any look down upon me, or vise versa.

  8. I had to answer this one- I did my first tattoo about 30 years ago- and the guy was getting it to fit in with his buddies that were ragging on him about not being tattooed! Yeah the snobs have been around longer than I have and aren't likely to disappear in the future I'll bet. Human nature to form up on an "us and them" basis- silly- but been that way since Cain and Able or whomever your archetype guys in that boat are.

  9. The original intention of a tattoo was to mark an individual as part of a tribe or a group. This type of tattoo warns others if you happen to belong to some kind of gang (good for them) and allows other kindred spirits to identify you (good for you.)

You could also find info on various sites. They usually include a beginner's guide to getting a tattoo and cover some of the most common concerns and questions when getting a tattoo.

This one is good too -
