Question:

Tattoo removal taking so long?

hey,

i got a tattoo about two years ago. about a month after i got it, i started laser treatments to get rid of it (big, stupid mistake--getting a tattoo of something you aren't totally sure you want on your body).

however, it's over a year (almost two) and the tattoo is still a dark grey (originally black).

i don't know why it's taking so long. i took pretty good care of the area after each session. at first, i used to pick at the scabs (but not so that the area would bleed or anything) a bit but started to let them fall off naturally. i covered it in gauze and followed the doctor's instructions pretty closely.

i've been going to my university's cosmetic surgery center. should i look into a dermatologist who does this procedure at the hospital/office?

thanks in advance for any answers.

  1. There is a lot unknown here.  How long are you waiting in between sessions?  How many sessions have you had?  Do you know the ink that was used?  How dark is your skin? How much experience and what is the success rate of the place you are going?

    If you have darker skin, they have to be very careful to be sure you don't hypo pigment.  Overall, darker skins are not good for tattooing.  The longer you wait in between sessions, the better the removal, in my opinion.  This skin heals up better.  Almost always, sumi blacks (carbon based inks) tend to remove easily.

  2. I've quite a few and if i were you i'd get a second opinion.Also,some tattoo's do not dissapear entirely.It should take about 6 months so all i can say is get a secong opinion and try not to pick at it and apply the right lotions.Also,if it bothers you that much you could always go over it with a fresh tattoo{of course,only if you're sure}

  3. I don't know too much about tattoo removal, but if you have any doubts about what you've been doing at the university cosmetic surgery center it would definitely be a good idea to get a second opinion.
