Question:

Tattoo representing protection? Help!?

I'm getting a tattoo on the back of my neck symbolizing my guidance and protection of my mother who passed from breast cancer a few years ago. I don't have any specific symbols that really remind me of her, however i'd love to get some type of traditional symbol that stands for protectiob of for guidance. I love interesting and intriquate symbols, if that helps. Any ideas? Help!

P.S. - I don't want to get something reprenting cancer or cancer awarness, i want it to stand for the guidance of my mother's love, not of the disease which took it.

  1. a shield for protection. perhaps with your family crest on it.

  2. a lock the shape of a heart with a key and the word "mom" engraved on the key

  3. http://www.chinese-symbols.com/p-chinese...

    http://www.chineseinkdesign.com/Chinese-...

I know it's not much.....but they are traditional chinese symbols.

  4. small angel wings

  5. Get your mothers horoscope with her birth stone being help by 2 hands, or however your would like it.

  6. a heart.

  7. You could get two hands cradling a heart.

To me that stands for your mother guiding you and protecting you, as if she were holding your heart in her own hands. Just a thought, but I don't know if you would be able to actually get a good picture of her hands.

Let's see.... I don't know anything about symbols. But do you have a certain animal that makes you think of protection and guidance a lot? People tend to go for bald eagles. I.E. you could get a bald eagle holding a heart, also symbolizing your mother holding your heart and guiding you.

I'm not really fond of the bald eagle thing, but you could use another animal too, maybe even her favorite animal to symbolize her.

Whatever you do, good luck! Please tell what you're considering, I would really like to know   (:

  8. What an awesome tribute - look at Kanji symbols

The first link shows several kanji (Chinese characters in the Japanese language) symbols (in three fonts) - perhaps you could combine a few that represent your mom.  I like the Kanji symbol for inspiration - that is the second link below

Best of luck to you - I am sure your mom is so proud of you!

  9. bit random, but there is a turkish symbol which wards away evil spirits and protects its called a blue eye or a nazar (type "turkish blue eye" wiki into google and you will see it). not sure if its appropriate to you but i thought it was quite quirky and saw someone with this symbol as a tattoo while on holiday to turkey!!

  10. how about a sheild? with red hearts stained on it and the first letter of your moms name in the really nice hand writing?

    I am sorry :(

  11. the celts used four-cornered knots for symbols of protection.
