Question:

Tattoo scabbing/dryness?

I got a tattoo about a week ago and I've been washing with anti-bacterial soap, and air drying, then applying Aquaphor Healing Ointment by Eucerin and patting off what's not being used. It's got a thin 'scabby' hardness over it that I can feel and I'm not sure it's all normal. Is there anything special to do while sleeping, as well? I asked the place I got it at and they said to just kind of deal with it.

  1. try not to wet it at all!

Bepanthem cream is the best apply 3 to 4 times a day and before bed,

    good luck :-)

  2. It is normal. That is what's supposed to happen. Your tattoo is healing. And they are right, you kind of just have to deal with it. The best you can do is just keep it moiste at all times by applying the cream of your choice. If it really gets bad you can put clear plastic wrap over it while you sleep. But that's about it. It usually goes away within the first week or so.

  3. The most important thing to do is not pick at it or anything. If you scratch at a scab, even unconsciously, you can end up pulling the pigment out of the skin along with the scab. I'm living proof...thankfully it wasn't a huge spot. Just leave it. Your body will take care of the healing process as long as you keep putting on lotion and taking care of it.

  4. its normal to scab. just make sure to not pick it when it gets itchy. the scabs will naturally fall off by themselves and your tattoo will be fine.
