I have a total of 9 Tattoos... I have been told that there is only an accepted 6 in the Marine Corps. Is this true? and what can I do about it without getting a removal? Or do I have to? What if I am prior service enlistment in the United States Army? does that make up for anything or does it basically mean ****?

  1. Yeah they can waiver just about anything. I have 8 tatts after they came out with this. They just take picturesw of the ones visible in PT gear. And as long as it isnt offensive in any way. You will be fine.

  2. You can seriously get just about anything waivered if the recruiter thinks you're worth it. Plus, our regulations allow us to have tattoos anywhere concealed by p.t. gear and up to certain sizes elsewhere, basically no type of sleeves. So if a majority... or even some (hopefully)... of your 9 are covered, and/or not sleeves, you should probably be cool. I can find no regulation stating a number to join.

  3. you can get a waiver for it, as long as it isin't anything discriminatory that can be viewed while in uniform. Marines roll sleeves during the summer, and if you have a sleeve tat that will go beyond this then that may be a problem.

IF you get a waiver for these tats, you will also have to sign a contract stating you will not get anymore tatts while in the Corps. The Corps will also take a picture of everyone of your tatts and keep them on file. (they just started doing this last year)

  4. I called the local recruiter NCOIC  and he says the tats  can be handled, butt he medical discharge,  depends on the re enlistment code, and you did not mention that,  it may involve your going to the main office ( on your dime) to plea for the waiver,

it depends, so you would have to provide the re enlistment code,  to be able to get a real answer, that is honest,  other wise it is merely guessing,

    good luck ,  ;)

  5. It may depend on where the tatoos are and what they depict.  Generally speaking, anything that can show while in uniform..and this can include with sleeves rolled up or in short sleeved shirts..has to be removed.  If there is anything discrimnatory or inflamatory in the content they can ask you to remove it or deny enlistment.  Did you have all of these when you enlisted before or are they new in the six months you were out?  In any case, the best way to get an answer is to talk to the recruiter..he will know what has to be done and what can or can't be waived.
