Ok, so I'm 16, from the UK and rather fond of tattoo art (I'm fully aware the legal age is 18)

I would just be interested to know what the procedure exactly involves of tattooing someone?

Are the artists highly qualified in Art or do they just use stencils most of the time?

Anybody who has a tattoo please tell!

Sorry if this has a really obvious answer, but I'm just curious!

Thankyou =]

  1. they are very good at tattooing otherwise they would probably get sued.  what they do is after you pick your design they copy it on that tracing paper with certain ink. they will shave the area and then add a vasaline type ointment on the area being tattooed then they lay the think tracing paper with your design on the area and the design transfers onto your body part thats getting tattooed.  then they shade the area outline the area and fill it with the colors of your choice

    its actually very simple and they are very good at tattooing otherwise they wouldnt have a job at the tattoo parlor.  ive had 6 tattoo's and thats what I have seen all the artists do to me.  hope this kinda helps ya better understand tattoos

  3. hi, i got my first tat not too long ago. I'm 23.it took be along time to work up the nerve to get it done as i had heard such horror stories. So this is what i did. I asked around. People i worked with,friends,etc..

    Once i found the perfect place to have it done. I thought about what i wanted and did a few sketches(you don't have to be good at art yourself) Then i phoned the place to pop in for an appointment Here they explained the process and went through my design with me and made improvements.

    The tattoo did hurt, i won't lie, but it was defiantly worth it. Once id settled on my design he traced it onto paper, put some Vaseline type stuff on my skin and transferred it over. Then he began.

    Most of the good tattooists are artists and can do it free style as well as tracing. It all depends where you go, just make sure you research as it last forever.

  4. The procedure involves telling the tattooist what you want, either by choosing a design or showing one of your own. Colours, size and site are then discussed. The area is exposed then cleaned, and the tattooist gets on with the work. Some tattooists work "freehand" some will use a guide of some kind but not a stencil lol, some are artists who will design and create their own work. Best advice is to go to a reputable place of business, preferably one recommended by frequent users. Go along, ask to be shown around, see examples of their work, check out their credentials, a good tattooist will be more than happy to spend this time with you, after all a tattoo is for life. A word of caution..... A good tattooist will never take your business if you are underage, under the "influence" or under 100% sure you know what you are doing.

    Never have any "names" tattooed on your body unless they are your parents or your children, husbands/lovers come and go, tats are forever lol.

    I have six, and I love them, would like more but have to be "discrete".

    Hope this has helped x

  5. well i have a griffin on my arm done from a studio it was done really well ya just give them the picture they make it into a fake tattoo put it on you...and if u like it you can have it done....shave the hair off in the area then they do it...then ya get a cream afterward...or somet like that lol

  6. i have tree tattoos my artist was skilled and highly qualified. he drew all my tattoos from the description i gave him. he used a carbon copy of it and placed it on my skin. i don't think an artist would just free hand it on someone as it is permanent i think they would only do this to them selves. they have ink pots and they use Vaseline on your skin so the needle slides and creates a clean line. they do the outlining of your tattoo usually in black, and then they do the shading/colouring. this is the colour you see in the tattoos, after they are finished they clean the excess ink off and put a gauze pad where you got the tattoo done, you are recommended to leave it on for 2 hours ( this absorbs blood if there is any) after care consists of lotion ( unscented) all the time and no hot tubs till fully healed. when it scabs LEAVE IT ALONE! if you pick the scab you are going to pull out the ink!!! it sucks and it is itchy but put lotion on it. this is the process i went thru. good luck! hope i answered your question

  7. I have a dragon on my shoulder. They used a stencil for the outline. But all the colouring and shading was done free hand. They are all pro's and qualified.
