Question:

Tattoos: Decoration or Desecration?

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

I got my first tattoo a little more than a month ago, and was wondering what y'all thought about them. Do you have one? Do you regret it or still like it?

Actually, now that I have it, sometimes I'm so glad that I got it because I think it's pretty, but then at other times I wish I could scrape it off, because it's there forever and permanent stuff freaks me out a little.

So... anyway, your opinions, please? :D

  1. i think tattoos are amazing i love them. i have always wanted one. they are great for so many things like you can make a statement. or remember someone after they have died. i have always wanted one.(:

  2. some can be quite tasteful

  3. I love them! I actually have 3. i started when i was 16 i actually drew my own tattoo of a cherry blossom branch and now i'm 19 and i have two more. i love them all and i don't regret it at all! i think tattoos are exciting and beautiful and i think it makes the person who has them more interesting. it kind of makes a statement that you want to live your life  the way you want to and you arent afraid to commit and put art on your body. and the thing people say about what about when you're 80. by the time your 80 you sure as ell wont care about what tattoos you have.

  4. Tattoos are all about how you express yourself as a person. They tell people how you view yourself what you like and possible what you dont like. I mean, if you get something really nice and original you can turn your body in walking pieces of art, which is beautiful. Personally i have 18 in total and planning on getting more in time, but everything i have i consider it as a piece of work because of all the time and effort put into them. (not to mention i love them all!)

    so i have to say.....decoration. :)

  5. It's a way of being unique I feel and to mark something on your body to symbolise something that is important to you.

I honestly don't agree with name tattoos or like junky not really well done tattoos turn me off.

I have a tattoo on my right inner arm of a dark pink orchid to represent my mom who was diagnosed (and beat) breast cancer.

I've always looked up to her as a person, I always wanted a tattoo, but I knew I wanted to wait until there was a good reason to get one, not to just get one for the sake of having one.

So that year when alot of family health problems arose, I got one.

To some people it's just a flower tattooed on my arm.. to me, it's symbolic of alot more than just a flower.

I saw someone with the Puma logo tattooed on her lower back.

    Come on now..

I wonder if she regrets it hahaha

  6. tattoos are art. i mean so many cultures did do tattoos.

i have a tattoo of the sagittarius sign on my back.

  7. I'm not getting one.

Because when you get old, they get old with you. They start to fade and blur, and they stretch out on your skin. It ends up looking like you had some blood vain pop accident, a burn, a permanent sharpie blob, or some tattoo artist that sucks at...tattooing.

  8. I love all 7 of mine.  I will never regret them.  Can't wait to get more.

  9. As long as your proud of it

    that's all that matters.

  10. I think it's a matter of personal opinion.  I have a tattoo on my ankle, been there 10 years now.  It's a purple cross with a red heart in the middle.  As a Christian, I wanted to show my faith in the form skin art.  I get a lot of compliments on it when it is visible.  Also, since it's on my ankle, I can cover it with clothing or socks if necessary.  I take very good care of it, and it still looks brand new.

Getting a tattoo is not desecration.  It's just permanent art on your skin.  However, the picture itself is what says a lot.  Some people get things like devils and satanic symbols.  Others get flowers or Mom.  It just depends on you.

Nothing is truly permanent.  A tattoo can be removed with laser.  It's very expensive, and can leave some scarring if not done by a professional.  This is why I thought long and hard about getting mine.  I have never regretted it to this day.  I like it.

  11. Decoration, I love them! I want more!

  12. u should have got a non permanant tatoo

  13. I love tattoos!! They are my 4th favorite thing, ever! I have a few, one really pretty one on my wrist/lower arm. I think of it/them as a permanent accessory!

I would love to get loads more, but my husband does not like them, and freaked when I got the one on my arm. I like to think of our skin as a canvas. I love colors and stuff! You can express yourself, your ideas, things you like with ink! Love tattoos :o)

I do have one, however, that I don't care for, got it when I graduated HS, the art is not great, and I would not have got one in that place (lower back) if I could do it over. The decision was hasty, but an artist said it would be easy to cover it up with another. Not bad!! I can get something super pretty and more personal!

    Good Luck!

  14. I personally really like tattoos, as long as they're tasteful. I don't like really explicit, huge, or cliche tattoos, as they seem kind of trashy to me, but overall I like them. I definitely plan to get one when I'm old enough. I'm only 16, but I hope to get one soon after turning 18, as I've always known I want to get one someday. I've already decided what to get and where to get it, so that by the time I'm 18 I will have had a long time to think about it and can go right out and get it without any regrets. If on my 18th birthday I'm still just as excited about it as I am now, I'll go for it!

  15. I love Tattoos and I think that tattoos are a form of art and expressing your-self through art!

    =]

  16. Okay, this really all depends on your tattoo. If it is something that really accentuates your personality and your tattoo reflects your interests and spirituality, then more than likely, you will not live to regret it. If it is a tattoo that was done while intoxicated, a mans name, or something you just picked out of a book, then you might live to regret it. A tattoo is something that you have to prepare yourself for LONG before you get one. And it takes a lot of thought. You don't want to put something permanent on your body that doesn't reflect who you really are. I have 2 tattoos. I have a butterfly landing on a flower on my back and a rose on my right forearm.

As soon as I descend from poor student to successful graduate, I will be getting more.

Perhaps you are freaked out by its permanence because you may already know that you made the wrong choice? You can always add to it and make it your own too.

  17. i currently am debating on getting a tattoo, i know where i want to get it, (on or around my bicep) but I'm not too sure if i really want to get one or not, my mother has gotten 4 of them in the past 6 months, i currently am undecided if i still want one or not. but as far as your situation, i would probably feel the same way, tattoos make everyone unique in their own way, by expressing their own rights and opionions and things

  18. i think tattoos  are a way of expressing yourself

  19. I have my upper body about 3/4 covered. I don't regret a single one. Point to any piece of ink on me, and I can tell you exactly what was going on in my life at that time, and how I came up with the design.(I have nothing "off the walls", as they say. All original ideas.) If life is a journey, I wear my road map, y'know? A form of self expression? Yeah, in a way. But it's also deeper than that in some ways. Things maybe you could never put into words; things that changed you at a deep level; for good or bad; can sometimes be expressed easier on your skin. Constant reminders of where you've been, what made you go there, and how you got there. If it's on my skin, it's important. At least to me. And that's the #1 thing to remember: Tattooed people don't give a rats' azz if your not tattooed. We don't care what you think about it, either. It ain't about you. It's about us. Save your looks of wonder and disgust. (You know who you are.) They are wasted, and make you look like ignorant hicks.

It is an ancient art, predates any religion, so spare me the morality c**p too, o.k.?

Hey, if your body is a temple, I'm just painting my walls!

Sorry about the rant. I feel better now. Thanks, good question.

  20. desecration thats just how i feel just being honest:-!

  21. Decoration.

Why? I think of my body like a car. It gets me about. Some people modify their cars, I prefer to modify my body. I feel my tattoos are an outside representation of what I am like on the inside. One of my tattoos is an ongoing memorial to everyone I've lost. Every time someone passes on, I have a flower added. It's something dear to me, and a good reminder that my life is still going :) (I know it sounds a little cheesy, but heh).

    I have 4, and I don't regret a single one.

Congratulations on your first tattoo!! Don't be freaked out by it, enjoy it! Show it, be proud of it :)
