I know you can't get tattoos while pregnant but can you get tattoos while breastfeeding?

If no, why not? What can happen and why is it frowned upon?

  1. you just don't want any foreign contaminates in your blood stream thats why.

  2. You can usually get a tattoo 6-8 weeks after giving birth. I didn't know it was frowned upon, at least not anymore than doing ANYTHING while breastfeeding. Some people just want you to sit in a chair and be hooked up like a dairy cow for the next year.

  3. The chemicals in the dye could cause infection which in turn could cause it to enter your bloodstream.

I got a tattoo while breastfeeding but my Peds doctor told me to pump enough milk for at 3-5 days to give the baby after I get my tattoo.  That was awhile ago.  I would ask your babys doctor.
