Taufik Hidayat beats Andre Kurniawan Tedjono in Men’s Singles first round of Indonesia Open
Indonesia’s experienced player Taufik Hidayat found an expected start as he defeated his team-mate Andre Kurniawan in Men’s Singles first round at the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012 on Wednesday, June 13, in Indonesia.
The former Olympic Gold Medallist and World Champion Taufik, who is currently World Number 12 in Men’s Singles world placements, did not face any considerable opposition from his rival and won the match with a reasonable margin.
The higher ranked Taufik played in his usual calm style and remained successful in winning the battle against Tedjono in straight games by consuming 41 minutes in the court.
In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Tedjono tried his best to overpower his experienced compatriot but failed to live up to expectations and lost the match with a respectable difference on the score board.
In the first game, Taufik played with precision as he did not lose his focus and also manipulated all loopholes of his rival.
The higher ranked Indonesian was in full control of the game and managed to take a reasonable lead of 11-8 until the mid-game interval.
After the 60-second break, Taufik became aggressive as he executed powerful smashes coupled with superbly placed net shots. He was on a different in the opening game and took it easily with a 21-18 score on the board.
In the following set, it was Tedjono who showed her aggressive skills when he played attacking badminton and also remained ahead on the score board throughout the opening half.
Taufik, on the other hand, could not take lead in the game and remained at 8-11 until the break.
After the one-minute interval, Taufik continued controlling the pace of rallies and ended the gap by reaching at16-16 on the score board.
At this crucial stage, Taufik employed his impressive experience and played safe badminton. He did not commit any mistake at the ending points of the second game and snatched it with a 21-19 score on the board.
The higher ranked Taufik emerged as the winner in his first battle in the tournament with a reasonable score of 21-18 and 21-19.
