Taufik Hidayat disappointed on lack of team spirit in Indonesia’s national squad – Badminton news
Indonesia’s best shuttler Taufik Hidayat got disappointed with the lack of team spirit in the national squad that according to him, became the major reason behind the poor outing of Indonesia at the Thomas Cup Finals 2012 which ended last week at Wuhan,
China.
The former World Champion and Olympic gold medallist Taufik, who is placed at number 12 in Men’s Singles world placements, said that there was no unity among the national shuttlers that is required to perform well in a big team-event championship like Thomas
Cup.
Taufik have always been putting emphasis on the grooming of young shuttlers but the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) remained unable to find the commendable replacements of the senior shuttlers and after the retirement of experienced players there
will be no one to challenge the world.
While talking about his observations during the Thomas Cup Finals, Taufik said that he could not see the unity which is essential to keep the team spirit high.
He also added that in his last seven participations in Thomas Cup, such a disappointing situation happened for the first time.
Taufik said, “I just felt that the togetherness among team members on this year’s Thomas and Uber Cup no longer existed. I’ve been on the Thomas Cup team for seven times, and this was a first.”
The experienced Indonesian said that he skipped the last two editions of Thomas Cup just to give opportunity to young shuttlers.
The London Olympics bound Taufik participated this time on the request of PBSI just to show his love and patriotism for Indonesia.
He further added, “It was disappointing to learn that one of the team members decided to go to Papua for some exhibition event two days before our departure; The PBSI even approved him to go. Where is the patriotism?”

Indonesian badminton is facing its worst days at the moment as there are just a few shuttlers in the national squad who have achieved considerable success at international level.
However, there is no consistency among the young players who are far away from getting what is takes to become world beaters.
