Indonesia’s legendary player Taufik Hidayat proved his elevated skills when he outplayed South Korea’s Shon Wan Ho in the quarter-final contest of the Thomas Cup Preliminary Round, on Thursday, February 16, in Macau.
Indonesia won this team-event match against South Korea with a narrow difference. Indonesian shuttlers lost the opening two battles but won the remaining three fights to register a victory over their South Korean rivals with a 3-2 score on the board.
The World Number 12 Taufik played his normal game and remained composed in the whole match and did not spare any chance for his Korean opponent to control the pace of rallies.
Taufik finished the fight in straight games with a comprehensive margin by taking 46 minutes in the court.
Right from the starting points, Taufik remained dominant in the game as he moved his lower ranked opponent in all areas of the court. He did not face problem in taking a terrific lead in the opening half of first game.
After the interval, the Indonesian continued his elevated run in the game while remaining quite relaxed. On the other hand, Wan Ho tried to match the perfection of his rival but failed to make the mark.
Taufik did not make any mistake in the opening game and won it with a remarkable 21-11 score on the board.
In the second game, Wan Ho played aggressive badminton and remained close to his Indonesian opponent in starting rallies.
However, Taufik took over the control by playing fabulous game at net and managed a small lead until the 60-second break.
After the one-minute break, Indonesian shuttler continued playing remarkable game by using variations in his strokes. He remained in complete control and did not lose his focus at any stage.
The positive and aggressive play of Taufik helped him to take the second game with a comfortable score of 21-15. The end result of this 46-minute straight-set Men’s Singles fight was 21-11 and 21-15.
By registering a thrilling 3-2 victory over South Korea in the quarter-final clash, the Indonesians will take on China in today’s semi-final of the Preliminary Round.
