Taufik Hidayat starts his journey successfully in first round of the 2011 World Championships
Indonesia’s top player, Taufik Hidayat, started his journey successfully as he defeated Peru’s Rodrigo Pacheco Carrillo in the Men’s Singles first round of the 2011 World Championships, at the Wembley Indoor Arena in London, on August 8.
Taufik, who is World Number Four at the moment and the third seed in the Men’s Singles draw of the World Championships, delivered a wonderful performance by playing perfect badminton in this opening match and indicated that he is near to find his momentum
in this world meet.
The third seed Indonesian took just 29 minutes to wind up the match in straight games by playing to his full potential and showing his class against the un-seeded Rodrigo, who completely failed to resist against the stylish shuttler from Indonesia.
Right from the start of this first-round match, Taufik remained on the driving seat as he was making his rival move around the court without facing any problem. His superb skills at the net coupled with wonderful finishing put him miles ahead of his rival
in the opening set of the match.
The World Number Four clinched the opening game by taking just 13 minutes with a stunning 21-10 margin on the board.
In the second game, Rodrigo played a little better by escalating his speed at the net and remained close to his opponent in the initial points. Taufik started to gear up the pace of the game by relying on his powerful attacks, which made his challenger quite
nervous. Until the interval in the second game, the higher ranked Indonesian was leading the game with a good margin of 11-7.
In the second part of the set, Taufik employed all of his skills by playing a variety of strokes to accommodate with the conditions of the hall. His strokes landed in the right areas with a high level of accuracy.
The Indonesian finished-off the second game with the margin of 21-14 in 16 minutes. This Men’s Singles battle of the first round ended with the score of 21-10 and 21-14.
