Taufik Hidayat surges into Men’s Singles quarter-final of the US Open Grand Prix Gold 2011
Indonesia’s top shuttler, Taufik Hidayat secured a place in the Men’s Singles quarter-final after thrashing India’s Chetan Anand in the round-of-16 of the US Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, at Orange, California, on Wednesday, July 13.
Taufik, who is the top seed in the event, took only 24 minutes to overwhelm the Indian in a straight-set one-sided fight. Chetan completely failed to match the standard of Taufik, who is a former World Champion and Olympic Gold winner.
World Number Four, Taufik, started the first game in a relaxed manner as he is famous for his superb temperament throughout the world of badminton. He sailed easily in the whole game and found no resistance from the Indian in the contest.
Chetan remained struggling hard to pick the shuttlecock early from all areas in the court, as he was moving slowly. He was taking more reaction time as compared to his challenger, which became the major reason of his loss as he allowed Taufik to attack.
The Indonesian played terrific badminton as he made no mistake in the opening part of the game and was successful in building up a good lead of 11-8. The Indian worked hard to pick the bird early, but the accurate strokes of Taufik made it impossible for
him to return the shuttlecock effectively.
Chetan reduced the gap in the second part of the set, but it was too late as Taufik ended the set with a gap of 21-16, in 15 minutes. The Indian failed to stop the smooth run of the top seed.
Taufik entertained the huge crowd by displaying a wonderful show of his incredible skills. He showed no mercy to Chetan in this game as he was playing at his best. His powerful jump smashes perfectly landed in the gaps in his rival’s court.
The Indonesian clinched the second set in remarkable fashion with a dramatic score of 21-7, in just 9 minutes. This 24-minute fight ended in two games with a superb difference of 21-16 and 21-7.
