Taufik Hidayat tames P Kashyap in the Men’s singles pre-quarterfinal of India Open Super Series
Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat has defeated P Kashyap of India, in the Men’s singles pre-quarterfinal of the India Open Super Series 2011, in India, on Thursday, April 28.
The second seed of the event, Taufik, took only 39 minutes to tame Kashyap, who crushed Machal Matejka of Slovakia in the first round of the Championship. In the quarter-final, Taufik will take on sixth seed, Sung Hwan Park of Korea, who defeated his team-mate, Wan Ho Shon, in the first round.
Former Olympic and World Champion, Taufik, who is currently World Number three and second seed in this event, opened his campaign against the Indian in his usual calm style. The Indonesian is known for his superb temperament and playing style. He established a good difference of 11-8 at the end of the opening half of the set.
After the break, Kashyap tried to match the pace of the game to reduce the difference of score, but he lost his control over the bird and made many unforced errors. Taufik kept the pace high by playing an attacking game and won the first set in only 18 minutes, with a decent margin of 21-17.
In the second set, Kashyap played better badminton and remained close to his opponent in the first part. Both shuttlers worked hard to find high clears for executing powerful down the line smashes. The young Indian played some super strokes and received huge applause from the home crowd. At the interval, Kashyap was just behind the Indonesian at 10-11.
After the one-minute rest, Taufik increased his speed by driving powerful rallies in all corners of the court. He pushed the Indian to the brink by playing a flawless game. However, the Indian kept on working hard and managed to reduce the gap to 17-19.
Taufik utilised his extensive experience in the end by displaying an aggressive game and won the set with a 21-19 margin, in 21 minutes. The ending score of this 39-minute straight-game match was, 21-17 and 21-19.
