Taufik Hidayat tames Tien Chen Chou to surge into third round of the 2011 US Open Grand Prix Gold
Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat continued his smooth run in the Men’s Singles category, as he tamed Chinese Taipei’s Tien Chen Chou in the second round of the 2011 US Open Grand Prix Gold, in California, USA, on Tuesday, July 12.
The top seed of the event, Taufik, who is also occupying the fourth place in the Men’s Singles World rankings, sailed smoothly in the straight-set match as he found no considerable resistance from Tien Chen. The Taipei shuttler failed to break the pressure
created by his experienced opponent. The Indonesian finished-off the fight in straight-sets, by taking just 30 minutes.
Taufik, who is famous for his calmness in the court, opened his campaign against Tien Chen in remarkable fashion, as he reached 11-7 in a flash. The Taipei player was struggling hard in picking up the bird early, as his challenger was playing with incredible
perfection.
After the interval, Taufik continued his winning performance without any hassle against the confused Taipei shuttler, who made many unforced mistakes in the opening set. The top seed clinched the game by a margin of 21-15, by taking 17 minutes of court time.
The second game of the match was a wonderful show of the high-class skills of the Indonesian, who was in complete control of the game. Taufik was moving in the court with incredible ease and was enjoying the rallies. Until the interval, Taufik was miles
ahead of his rival by reaching at 11-5.
In the final part of the second set, the top seed remained composed and played with accuracy. Tien Chen tried to catch up with the deficit but failed completely as he found no gap in his opponent’s court. Taufik wasted no time in ending the second game with
a dazzling margin of 21-11, in just 13 minutes. The 30-minute straight-game battled finished-off with a 21-15 and 21-11 score on the board.
In the Men’s Singles third round, Taufik will take on India’s Chetan Anand, who defeated Brice Leverdez of France in the previous phase of the event.
