Taufik Hidayat wants to regain form at the 2011 World Championships – Badminton News
Indonesia’s ace shuttler, Taufik Hidayat, wants to regain his lost form at the 2011 World Championships, which will start from August 8, in London, England. The Indonesian veteran is determined to get back on the right track before the 2012 Olympic Games.
Taufik, who will be turning 30 on August 10, has been struggling hard for the last one year to win any major event. He has lost his momentum in the court and wants to get it back in the World Championships, as his major target is to perform well at next
year’s Olympic Games.
While talking about his target in the World Championships, Taufik said, “My ultimate goal is next year’s Olympic Games. I am here at the world meet to find my touch again. My game is going downhill and I need to regain my momentum.”
He further added, “It will be nice to pick up the pace in Wembley. This is my last world meet. It is the right time for me and I will say ‘no thank you’ even if I get the chance (to play in the world meet) again.”
World Number Four, Taufik, has already won the Men’s Singles title at the 2004 Olympic Games and the 2005 World Championships. He has clinched all major titles in the world of badminton except the All England Open, which is the only missing crown in his
legacy.
Speaking about his plan for the 2012 Olympic Games, Taufik said, “It will be a rare feat if I make it to the Olympic Games next year. It will be my fourth outing (after 2000 Sydney, 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing). Not many have that record.”
In the World Championships, Taufik is placed in the top half of the Men’s Singles draw. His main rivals in this half will be China’s Chen Jin and Chen Long, along with top seed and World Number One, Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei. The Indonesian has the potential
to beat all of these top shuttlers, if he manages to find his momentum.
