  1. There is no train service. Your options are by bus, car or plane. If you go by bus or car, just know that while lots of Argentineans do it, the roads can be a bit scary. Most of the 650 mile, 1050 kilometer, journey is on two-lane roads.

According to my father-in-law, there used to be a train that went from Buenos Aires to Mendoza. However, that stopped some 10 years ago or so. About 9 months ago, I read in the paper, Clarín, that they were starting a project to bring back train service from Buenos Aires to Córdoba. The same article also mentioned that in the future, a project would be begun to extend the train service on to Mendoza.

According to my father-in-law, the trains stopped because they weren't well maintained. He claimed that the British had started the trains, and that over time the trains themselves broke, and no one ever fixed them.

I haven't looked any of his claims. I'm not sure where to look. They seem reasonable.

  2. Plane travel is the best option in Argentina. If you come in June remember its the height of winter and bring along warm clothing.
